Knowing your triggers

Post by griffintalley »

We all have triggers. One of mine is if someone is washing their hands. One of my molesters washed his hands before and after he touched me. I used to go into a panic attack and I didn't know why.
Now I know and I use mindfulness techniques to help ease the anxiety.
You'll have to figure out what works for you in dealing with triggers but you need to know what they are. My suggestion is to write them down. Think about what was happening at the time. Who was involved. Maybe the language that was used or a particular action. Was it at a certain time of day. Maybe before breakfast or right before bed.
Once you figure out what and why then you can recognize that trigger in the future and use any number of techniques to offset the anxiety.
The key is knowing your triggers. If you know them then you can confront them and hopefully keep them from having control over you.
